Thinking about possible destinations for your medical residency, but do not know where exactly to go? In this article, we will accompany you in a journey throughout Turkey, and explain why and why not to specialize in Turkey.
Table of Contents
The Turkish Healthcare System
Specializing in Turkey
You will have a specific program for lectures in the university and rotations in hospitals, which helps making things clear and comfortable for you as a trainee.
Your medical seniors
In the first two years of specialization, you will receive education mostly from older residents in your specialty since attending doctors (that is, those who finished the whole residency program) prefer to teach residents who have already gone a long way in the specialty. In fact, this is so much better for you, because fellow resident doctors are usually kinder, understanding and willing to help you depending on your needs and mindset.
Tests and daily life as a resident
Specializing in Turkey, you will be tested every day; specialists and older senior doctors will bug you with many questions about cases you encounter in hospitals, forcing you to prepare for each and every minute detail. At first, they will provide you with small tasks, and if you accomplish them successfully, you will be entrusted with bigger ones.
Making AN iNCOME in Turkey
And here comes the MONEY, what we all strive for. Turkey is the world’s top destination for cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedic surgery due to its competitive prices compared to Europe and the USA. Working in such fields in Turkey will guarantee you many high-paying job offers with salaries going up to 100,000 NIS a year.
Transportation options in turkey
During specializing, your salary will not allow you to afford a car, so you will have to take public transportation. Luckily, though, Turkey has a highly sophisticated transportation system. Most of cities are within public transportation’s reach. Be it buses, trains or metros, the public transport system is dirt-cheap, making it the most viable option, financially speaking.
Daily life in Turkey
In Turkey, you will find a vibrant culture in all life’s aspects. Turkey has a rich history with many historical sites to discover. Moreover, Turkey has a culture very akin to Arab cultures and that is for two reasons: First, it is a Muslim country; you can find mosques everywhere and hear the adhan five times a day. Second, in Turkey you will meet many Arabs who are kind and loving, unlike what is portrayed stereotypically. Moreover, you will find a wide variety of food including Arab food, which is quite hard to find in Europe or the US.
So why not go to Turkey?
Turkey has many ongoing political issues with the US, inflicting many harms to the state of affairs. Turkey’s economy, for example, has plummeted steeply downwards, so much so the Turkish lire equals a tenth of the US dollar, as of today. However, this does not seem to be greatly affecting the cost of living inside of the country.
