Your guide to getting HMC residency scholarship

Requirements

IFOM 2 or Step 2 CK You will need to prove your clinical knowledge by passing either of these exams or their equivalent.

The good news: your medical school grades don’t matter(at least not as much as international licensing exams) in this regard, only these exams’ score is considered in the selection process.

Both IFOM and Step 2 CK provide medical schools internationally with tools for measuring examinees’ understanding of the medical sciences.

IELTS OR TOEFL

To ensure English language proficiency you have to get an IELTS score of 7.0 or an equivalent TOEFL score. OET is also accepted.

CLINICAL INTERNSHIP YEAR

Clinical skills are essential in the competition for the Hamad scholarship, and those skills can be proven by providing an internship certificate for one year in your chosen specialty. 

RESEARCH

Of course, research is a must in all residency programs worldwide. You need to have basic research knowledge and to have participated at least in two research papers in your student’s life.

It is worth mentioning that the more the better since you will be competing with thousands of students from highly qualified universities.

CV

A medical career is not only about medical knowledge. As a doctor you need good communication, leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making skills among many others, therefore you must have a CV with related experience, projects…etc.

What happens after you finish your residency program in Qatar?

There are different options that graduates from these programs choose:

• Enroll in a fellowship program for a subspecialty in Qatar

These fellowships are widely available for Qatar resident graduates which are you in this case.
After completing your fellowship, you can work as a consultant in Hamad corporation hospitals.

• Obtain residency in some other country 

Some use the residency program in Qatar as a way to get a good income, they save a great deal of money and then travel to another country and get their residency again and live there. Since living in Qatar is not an easily available option for Palestinians. 

• Travel to work in another country that approves the Arabic medical board.
