BARIATRIC SURGERY MORTALITY RESEARCH AND AUDIT, NEW

BARIATRIC SURGERY MORTALITY RESEARCH AND AUDIT, NEW

The primary objective is to find out the common causes of early (90-day) and late (>90-day) mortality related to bariatric surgery.

Only one Patient Complete Dataset is required.

We need to collect data on patients with the following criteria:

Inclusion Criteria:

1. All patients who die within 90 days of a primary/ revisional bariatric surgical/ endoscopic procedure between 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2022 at your centre (irrespective of where the initial procedure was performed)
2. All patients who die > 90-days after a primary/ revisional bariatric surgical/ endoscopic procedure (irrespective of the time gap between the two) between 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2022 at your centre, if the bariatric surgery was mentioned anywhere on the death certificate as a primary, secondary, or contributory cause.
3. Adults (>/=18 years)

Exclusion Criteria:

1. Patients who die outside the above dates or who have never had a surgical or endoscopic bariatric procedure.
2. Patients <18 years of age.
3. Patients dying > 90-days after a surgical/endoscopic, primary/ revisional bariatric procedure if bariatric surgery (or name of any bariatric procedure) was not mentioned anywhere on the death certificate.

Each team will have a leader. If you think you are qualified, then please don’t hesitate to apply. The number of each team will be depending on the total number of participants.

You will be required to contact a supervisor if you are not a specialist.
It is a very good opportunity for those who seek publishing papers in fields of:
General Surgery / Bariatric Surgery / Gastro-intestinal Surgery

Authorship:

One collaborative authorship per 1 complete dataset. Please provide details of all authors on the Excel Spreadsheet.

What makes this project unique:

  1. Your name will be assigned in every published paper.
  2. You can write the paper and statistics by yourself and assign your name wherever you want after you reach an agreement with the moderators.
  3. You can request to provide part of the data, whether your own or your country’s, to apply for a conference after you coordinate with the moderators.
  4. The participants have the right to suggest any research idea as an ancillary or second publication for all the data and work on it to publish it from the global data group and in such case, you can propose your idea and gain the opportunity to become a first author.
  5. A lot of papers are expected to be published out of this project and will be considered as a guideline reference for future surgeries.

Important notes:

  1. The research period will be between January and December 2022.
  2. Please follow our messages via emails and reply as fast as you can to ensure you get your place.
